Undermanned Clippers fall to hot-shooting Warriors

Santa Cruz, CA—The Agua Caliente Clippers fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors on the road Saturday night, 118-84, on the second night of a back-to-back. With the loss, the Clippers are 14-15 overall and have yet to pick up a win against Santa Cruz.

Playing with only seven men, the Clippers started out strong, keeping the game even in the opening minutes of play, before Santa Cruz went on a 9-2 run to take the lead into the second frame. Keith Steffeck knocked down two three-pointers to bring the Clippers within three points, but the Warriors responded with an 11-4 run to extinguish the threat and eventually stretch their lead out to 21 before the halftime break. The second half didn’t look much different, as the Warriors capitalized on second-chance opportunities to wear down the undermanned visiting team and keep their lead out of reach. The Warriors connected on 11 three-pointers on the night, while the Clippers hit six.

Brice Johnson led the Clippers, recording a double-double of 22 points and 14 boards. LaDontae Henton contributed 19 points and seven rebounds, while Tyler Roberson added 14 points and eight boards. Ike Ireogbu had nine points and nine rebounds and Michael Orris came off the bench to hand out a career-high 12 assists.

The Clippers return home to take on the Austin Spurs on Wednesday, January 24. The teams are currently tied at one win apiece in the season series.
