El Segundo, CA—The Agua Caliente Clippers fell to the South Bay Lakers on the road Thursday night, 108-104. With the loss, the Clippers fell to 20-25 overall and 2-2 against South Bay.
Despite leading the majority of the game and with all 10 players scoring at least one point, the Clippers couldn’t hang on for the win. After swapping leads in the opening quarter, C.J. Williams connected on two three-pointers to put the Clippers up by 11 with two minutes remaining in the first half. The Lakers responded with a quick run of their own to pull within six before the halftime break.
The Clippers scored four quick points to start the third quarter, stretching their lead to as high as 14, but South Bay scored nine unanswered points to close the quarter and cut the deficit to just five. DeAndre Daniels hit a three to give the Clippers an eight-point advantage and South Bay responded again with a run to pull within two, causing the Clippers to call a timeout. From there the two teams traded leads again, until South Bay went on a 7-1 run in the final four minutes of the game to ultimately cause the Clippers’ unraveling. Williams hit again from beyond the arc to put the Clippers within two, but South Bay took advantage at the free throw line, as Alex Caruso hit both shots to secure the win.
The Clippers were well-balanced on offense, with Williams leading with 26 points, including a 6-for-11 showing from deep. Tyrone Wallace recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards, while Tyler Roberson also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ike Iroegbu led the Clippers bench with 12 points and Tim Quarterman and LaDontae Henton added nine and eight points, respectively. Daniels added 13 points and Skylar Spencer had seven to round out the Agua Caliente scoring effort.
The Clippers head to Nevada to take on the Reno Bighorns tomorrow night in a 7 p.m. tip (PDT) in the second night of a back-to-back.
