Clips fall to 87ers on the road

Newark, DE—The Agua Caliente Clippers lost on the road Monday night, falling to the Delaware 87ers, 123-89. With the defeat, the Clippers fell to 17-19 overall.

The 87ers wasted no time out of the gates, outscoring the visitors 31-18 in the opening quarter of play, thanks to 60 percent shooting from the field. The second quarter was much of the same, the only difference being that Delaware connected at a 50 percent clip from deep, and took a 26-point advantage into the break.

The second half saw the 87ers stretch their lead out to as many as 38 points and the Clippers were unable to respond with any run of their own. Agua Caliente missed the inside presence of James Michael McAdoo, who missed tonight’s contest for precautionary reasons. McAdoo has recorded a double-double in almost every game he has played with the Clippers, including an average of four offensive rebounds per game. The Clippers were outscored 66-46 in the paint.

J.J. O’Brien led the Clippers in scoring, going for 24 points on 10-for-20 shooting from the field. Tyler Roberson added 14 points and eight rebounds on 75 percent shooting (6-for-8), while LaDontae Henton added 11 points. DeAndre Daniels led the Clippers bench with 13 points and six rebounds, while Andre Dawkins scored eight points in his return to action, after missing a little over a month with an ankle injury. One bright point was the Clippers shooting at the free throw line, where they shot almost 87 percent, connecting on 13 of 15 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Clippers continue their road trip, heading to Pennsylvania to take on the Erie Bayhawks on Wednesday in an 8 a.m. tip (PST). Fans can stay up-to-date on team news by following the team on Twitter (@ACClippers) or visiting Full season membership, group, and single tickets for the 2017-18 Agua Caliente Clippers season are on sale now.
