Frisco, TX—An Agua Caliente Clippers comeback came up short on Sunday night, as they fell to the Texas Legends on the road, 122-111. With the loss, the Clippers slip to 20-27 and 1-2 against Texas.
The Legends wasted no time out of the gates, establishing an 11-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Texas connected at a 63-percent clip from beyond the arc in the second frame, but C.J. Williams and Tyler Roberson each put up seven points in the quarter to keep the Legends’ lead at just 13 at the halftime break.
Legends’ center Brandon Ashley hit a three to open the second half and extend the home team’s lead to 16, but ACC’s Tim Quarterman responded with a three of his own a few possessions later to spark an 8-0 Clippers run and cut into the deficit. The two teams traded baskets until the Legends hit back-to-back threes to extinguish the threat and take a 19-point lead into the final quarter. Texas led by as many as 23 in the fourth, but the Clippers refused to go away easily, as Roberson hit four free throws to spark another run. The Clippers pulled within nine points multiple times, but ultimately ran out of time on the clock, despite outscoring the Legends 38-30 in the fourth quarter.
Roberson led the Clippers with 19 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter to keep Agua Caliente in the game. He also pulled down a team best 12 rebounds. LaDontae Henton scored 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field. Quarterman finished with a season-high 16 points, including seven in the third quarter. Ike Iroegbu and Skylar Spencer added 13 and 12 points, respectively, to round out the Clippers scoring effort. Spencer also recorded a career-high four blocks.
The Clippers head home to take on the Oklahoma City Blue on Tuesday night in a 7 p.m. tip (PST).
