Mfiondu Kabengele Named NBA G League Player of the Week

MFIONDU KABENGELE NAMED G LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

The NBA G League today announced that Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario center Mfiondu Kabengele has been named the G League Player of the Week for games played Monday, January 13 through Sunday, January 19.

Kabengele, on assignment from the Los Angeles Clippers, led Agua Caliente to a 2-1 record during the week, lifting the team over .500, while averaging 30.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in addition to shooting splits of 63.5 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range. He recorded a career-high 38 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the field and four-of-seven shooing from distance in Sunday’s 135-116 win over the Stockton Kings.

In 18 games this season (18 starts), Kabengele is averaging 19.0 points, good for third on the team, along with 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks, both team-highs. He ranks ninth in the G League in blocks per game and 11th in rebounding.

This is the first G League Player of the Week award for Kabengele, who has spent time in both the NBA and G League this season. Currently in his first professional season, he was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft with the 27th overall pick.
